Business Spotlight: Rocky Mountain Oncology — Where Expert Care Meets Small-Town Heart
In Lander, Wyoming, healthcare is personal—and nowhere is that more evident than at Rocky Mountain Oncology (RMO). Serving Fremont County and surrounding communities, Rocky Mountain Oncology provides exceptional medical and radiation oncology care while preserving something just as important: humanity. For the team at RMO, cancer care isn’t just clinical—it’s deeply relational.
Why Lander Matters
For Rocky Mountain Oncology, being located in Lander isn’t just geography—it’s purpose. As an oncology practice in a small town, the team values the deep sense of connection that naturally forms when you care for your neighbors. Patients aren’t simply names on a chart; they are friends, family members, and familiar faces from the grocery store or local events. The trust built in these relationships runs deep.
Keeping care close to home is one of RMO’s greatest gifts to the community. Patients don’t have to travel hours while navigating one of the hardest seasons of their lives. Instead, they receive comfort, dignity, and familiarity—right where they belong.

A Team That Truly Cares
Behind every patient experience at Rocky Mountain Oncology is a team that carries their work—and their patients—with them long after the clinic doors close. They celebrate victories together, grieve losses together, and support one another through it all. And yes—they laugh. Even in oncology. Humor, kindness, and connection are how this team sustains itself while doing very serious work.
Dr. John Zimmermann, Medical Oncologist, has been with RMO for six years and brings both clinical expertise and a genuine love for the Wyoming lifestyle. Originally from Lakewood, Colorado, Dr. Zimmermann enjoys riding his motorcycle, exploring Wyoming’s terrain, supporting local animal rescue efforts, and spending time with his wife and two daughters.
Ashleigh Sowards, Site Leader and Office Nurse, has been with RMO for 13 years. After nine years as a Medical Oncology Nurse and four years in leadership, she feels deeply blessed to work at a facility that provides such meaningful care. Outside of work, Ashleigh enjoys camping, gardening, and spending time with her husband and children.
Viva, BSN, RN, CWCN, has spent 4.5 years working in the lab and infusion department. She considers it a privilege to care for members of her own community and proudly shares her love for Lander. When not at work, Viva enjoys working with children at her church, riding her horse, and walking her dog.
Lindsey Backer, RN, has served as the Radiation Oncology Nurse at RMO for 4.5 years. Born and raised in Riverton, Lindsey brings 20 years of diverse nursing experience to her role. She enjoys photography and spending time outdoors—camping, fishing, and being anywhere near the water.
Juli Lovington, RN, has been with RMO for three years and works closely as Dr. Zimmermann’s nurse. With a decade-long nursing career that took her across the country, Juli ultimately chose to settle in Lander. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, fly fishing, and spending time with her family, horses, and cats.
Marty Brammer, RT(R)(CV)(T), has provided compassionate radiation therapy at RMO from 2002–2012 and again from 2014 to the present. His background includes cardiac cath lab work, diagnostic radiography, and healthcare education. Marty feels blessed to live with and serve the people of Fremont County.
Sheri Lopez, Patient Concierge, joined RMO in October 2024 and calls it the best decision she’s ever made. With 15 years in medical clerical work, Sheri is often the first face patients see when they walk through the doors. A mom of three, she enjoys dark chocolate, reading, and baking.
Gail Freeman, BSN, RN, has been with RMO for nine years and brings a wide range of experience including medical-surgical nursing, hospice, home health, and international medical missions to Belize and Guatemala.
Teesha Burt, BSN, RN, joined RMO in 2014 and is approaching 12 years with the practice. With over 25 years in nursing, Teesha says she loves her job so much it doesn’t feel like work. She cherishes caring for patients and families, her faith, her husband Mike, daughter Rheanna, and her family—human and animal alike.
Giving Back, the RMO Way
Community engagement at Rocky Mountain Oncology is deeply personal. The team gives back by building long-term relationships, supporting patients beyond clinic walls, educating and advocating, and consistently showing up when it matters most. They also support local events such as Relay for Life and the Wind River Rodeo Round Up, reinforcing their commitment to the community they call home.
A Practice That Feels Human
What makes Rocky Mountain Oncology truly unique is the intersection of exceptional oncology care and small-town heart. Relationships come first. The team is tight-knit, resilient, and all-in. Care is delivered close to home, with compassion at the center of everything they do.
At its core, Rocky Mountain Oncology doesn’t just treat cancer—it cares for people. And in Lander, Wyoming, that makes all the difference.
